"See anything interesting Cammie?" Mikayla glanced at Cammie, then around the upper levels of the museum. Cammie looked at her, being knocked out of her train of thought. Cammie shook her head no and continued to look around. There were some more artifacts of more modern age. Multiple empty spots dotted the walls and floors where artifacts should be. Various entrances were blocked off. There was only three other people up there, besides Cammie and Mikayla. There was one guy and two girls.
The guy was rather tall with a slim build. Cammie estimated he was about 23. He had short blonde hair and a small beard, which was a shade redder than his blonde hair. He wore a red T-shirt and mesh grey shorts with a sports styled design. He appeared to have strong arms and legs. On his back, he had a small, black drawstring bag. He had a rather stern look on his face, but it fluxed between a serious and joking face. Surrounding him was the odd smell of chlorine and sneakers. His black bag was wet on the bottom half, but it didn't seem to bother him. He was admiring a replica of the Great Sphinx.
To the man's right was a young woman. Cammie estimated her to be about 21. She had medium length brown hair and an athletic build. She wore a faux army uniform, complete with cameo hat and boots. Her hair curled down to her shoulder blades where a plastic replica of a rifle was strapped. Slung over her left shoulder was a green standard, army-issued knapsack. Cammie had to wonder if Snipe knew her at all, since Snipe was going to join the military, but the nuclear wipe out left him as a hired assassin. She was looking at paintings and photographs of the previous wars the USA was in, from the Revolutionary War to the War on Terror.
On the other side of the room was a much older woman, who Cammie guessed to be at least over 40. She had snow white hair and a long, elegant, pink scarf. She visibly had wrinkles, but her make-up covered made her seem about 30. With a slim build, the woman stood rather tall as compared to the other two. She wore a lovely black and white shoulder-less dress that came all the way to her knees. Her black high-heels complimented her dress, as did her white purse slung over her left shoulder. She wore two earrings, each in the shape of a large, silver hoop. She admired a lovely golden throne, coated with jewels.
"Not at first glance." Cammie replied. "So, who are these three?"
"That man there," Mikayla pointed to the man, "is named Willis. He's our town's top competitive swimmer and he's never lost a swimming race before. Willis is also a top notch runner. He's tied with her, Alexis, for the record of fastest marathoner in Swan Valley." Mikayla turned and pointed to the woman in the army uniform. Cammie turned and compared Willis and Alexis. Both looked very fit and extremely athletic. Willis, though, seemed to have a more laid back attitude while Alexis seemed more strict. Cammie pulled out her journal and began to draw the two of them. "And finally, that lady there i-"
Mikayla was cut short when the older lady approached them. She had a rather smug look across her face. "Mikayla dear, are you talking about me?" Mikayla nodded and the woman looked at Cammie. "My my, who is this?"
"This is Cammie. She's my new assistant." The woman eyed up Cammie, making Cammie feel a little unnerved. After a bit, the woman brought her right hand across her mouth and laughed, causing Willis and Alexis to turn their heads.
"Well then, allow me to formally introduce myself. You can call me Darla, darling." She laughed even more, which unnerved Cammie more. "What's wrong darling? You seem shaken."
"N-Nope, I'm fine!" Cammie nearly shouted, shaking her head. "So, tell me, what brings someone like you to a barely completed exhibit like this?" Darla glared at Cammie so fiercely that it could pierce granite.
"What do you mean by, 'someone like you'? For your information, I have more money then you'd ever make in ten lifetimes, darling." The way Darla said "darling" made Cammie gulp and tense up. As Cammie was about to speak, Mikayla stepped between them.
"Hey now you two, be nice. There's no need to be like that to anyone." Darla glared at Mikayla, then returned to her previous self. Mikayla and Cammie both breathed a sigh of relief as Darla chuckled.
"Now then, if there are no more reasons for me to continue this discussion," Mikayla shook her head, "I'll be taking my leave." Darla began to walk around Cammie and Mikayla, but then stopped and turned to Cammie. "Also, if you would, keep a watch out for those nasty Xerzons, would you, darling? I feel as if I can trust you for that. Just a little something that Mikayla's still working on fixing and two heads are better than one. Well, now, ta-ta darlings." With that, Darla walked back to the entrance and exited the floor. Cammie, puzzled, look at Mikayla, who looked away.
"Mikayla, who or what are these, Xerzons?" Cammie asked, crossing her arms.
"I-It's nothing, r-really." Mikayla stated firmly, not making eye contact with Cammie. Cammie refused to just let it go like that.
"Mikayla, tell me what it is now. As your assistant, I formally request all information on these Xer-!" Cammie was nearly shouting when Mikayla cupped her hand over Cammie's mouth.
"Be quiet, would you?! I'll tell you when we aren't in any sort of public place." Mikayla glanced around, making sure that she didn't attract the attention of Willis and Alexis, but neither of them were paying attention. Mikayla sighed and looked back at Cammie. "Do you understand?" Cammie nodded and Mikayla removed her hand. At that moment, Mikayla's phone began to ring. Startled, Mikayla pulled out her phone in surprise and fumbled around a bit, trying to catch it. She quickly started muttering, "Please don't be Sis, please don't be Sis." When she finally caught her phone, she looked at Cammie, who gave a rather weirded out expression, and to Willis and Alexis, who gave it no more than a passing glance. "I-I'm just g-g-gonna go t-take this..." Mikayla stammered, clearly embarrassed. With that, Mikayla walked into one of the other rooms. Cammie couldn't help but smile at the events that just transpired.
She wanted to listen in to the conversation Mikayla was having, but she decided not to and sketched down the room instead. There still wasn't much there, but Cammie was surprised that there wasn't other workers here at the museum besides Xandie and Zed. For a place this big, there should have at least been more than two workers, and it seemed like Zed was the only one who really worked. She sighed and leaned back against a wall behind her. Mikayla returned a few minutes after with an expression of relief on her face.
"Hey, so, who was it?"
"Thankfully, it was only Tyler. He said he wanted to see us about something." Cammie nodded and began to exit the museum with Mikayla, making sure to wave good-bye to Xandie and Zed. She would have said good-bye to Alexis and Willis, but neither of them really seemed to pay much attention to them. However, when they stepped outside, it began to downpour. Mikayla adjusted her hat to cover most of her head and Cammie used her jacket as a poncho.
They were walking down the Main Street when they ran into Harley, who was just getting off her shift. Her dress was completely soaked and she tried covering herself with her apron. At no point did Harley ever lose her smile.
"Oh, hello Cammie. Hello Mikayla. Lovely rain, isn't it?" Cammie could not tell if Harley was being serious or sarcastic.
"Yes, we haven't had a rain storm like this in a while. Last one was, what two weeks ago?" Harley nodded and adjusted her apron. "Be careful not to fall you two." Her cheerful tone appeared to make even the rain calm down. "It's been quite a day for me. What about for you two?" Cammie, despite not wanting to seem rude, nudged Mikayla.
"Um, Mikayla? Tyler and the rain?"
"Huh? Oh, right! Harley, we'd love to stay and chat, but we have to go. We'll talk another time, promise." Harley nodded and smiled wider and continued on her way. Mikayla and Cammie hurried their way to Tyler's house.
Once inside, Mikayla took off her soaked hat and vest and proceeded to Tyler's office. Meanwhile, Cammie hung up her drenched jacket. Cammie made sure to check if either her journal, sCAn Pad, or her cloaking device had any water damage, and to her relief, there was none. She dried off her hair as went and joined Mikayla in Tyler's office.
"Glad to see you two survived the rain." Tyler mentioned, gesturing to the downpour outside. "Find anything useful?" Mikayla nudged Cammie to present. Cammie cleared her throat and presented what they learned.
"Well, whoever did this had an executive ticket from the museum, specifically the Relics of Yester-Earth section. However, there were only a select few who have purchased an executive ticket." Cammie went to her jacket and brought back her journal, showing the names of all who had bought an executive ticket. Tyler nodded and leaned back in his chair, resting his sling on a pillow.
"Is that all?" he asked. Mikayla reluctantly nodded and Tyler sighed. "Well, we don't have anything close to a case. You'll have to continue working. I expect a better report next time if you even want to think about having any part in the trial."
"Trial?" Cammie asked, "They already found enough to convict someone?"
"No, but, if I know Magdalena, they are most likely getting close. If they do have enough to convict someone, I seriously hope you have enough to defend with." Cammie nodded, understanding why Mikayla was concerned that phone call earlier was her sister. "However, that's enough for today. You two are excused." With that, Tyler went back to some paper work. Mikayla and Cammie grabbed their stuff and exited. The rain had slowed significantly to a light sprinkle.
"Well, it is getting late. I'll see you tomorrow in my office at around 7, sound good? Don't worry, we'll get breakfast before we start working, promise." Mikayla extended her hand to Cammie.
"Alright, but tomorrow, I want full details on these Xerzons." With that, Cammie shook Mikayla's hand and walked towards the motel.
