She sighed as she flopped herself onto her bed. She stared up at the pale white ceiling, then glanced over to her bright purple walls. She had stared at the walls and ceiling endlessly for days on end. Her computer was broken and had been broken for 7 years now, with no one having the parts to fix the obsolete dinosaur. Her phone sat on her nightstand, silent without messages. Alise Von Don Lend sighed again and closed her eyes. She loved to imagine what her life would be like if she had the game. She sighed again and decided to sleep again, like she had the day before and the day before that.
The game that she wished she had was known as Wonderland. It was a sci-fi MMO that had taken the world by storm. It was created by Mad H@cker Enterprises. It was introduced to the world about 10 years ago and everyone caught on. Everyone who
was anyone had an account on the game. Your social status and everything was run by this game, and everyone accepted this. If you completed the daily missions, you got to eat. If you earned money in the game, you earned money in real life. If you made a relationship in game, you made a relationship in real life. The biggest thing was, if you died in game, you died for real. There were very few people who didn't have an account. There was approximately about 1,000 people in the world who didn't have an account. One of the people who didn't have an account...was Alise Von Don Lend.
It was because of this that Alise always came home in bumps and bruises. Anyone who didn't have an account was brutally abused by everyone. Everyday, she was bullied and pushed around, and it was socially acceptable because she didn't have game account. Every person in school tormented her, from the most popular kids in school, to the least popular kids who had accounts, to even the teachers that she had. She always got the worst food from the cafeteria, the hardest questions, the strictest grading system, and even the most strenuous gym class. Every day was an ordeal for her, which never ends until she gets an account. Sadly, her phone was very outdated and unable to even get Internet access and
her computer was broken beyond repair.
Her cat, Chester, came up to her and nuzzles her face, his soft black fur tickling her nose. Alise snorted and then laughed. Chester was her best friend since every person hated her. She had had Chester for about 5 years and loved him so much. She took great care of Chester and in return, Chester was always there for her, to listen to her problems and comfort her when she was down, which was almost all the time. Chester trodden over and curled up at the base of her feet. Alise sat up and softly petted her loving cat.
"Hey idiot! Wake up, you bloody idiot! Your scraps are here!" yelled her older sister, Maria Von Lend, from right outside her door, banging her fist hard on the door. Maria walked off in a huff and put in her MP3 player headphones and logged into Wonderland from her phone.
Alise opened her door slowly, letting Chester squeeze through the gap between her legs and the door frame. Alise walked to the kitchen where there was a plate with scattered veggies, very little meat, and about one or two small scoops of mash potatoes. She sighed and picked up her plate and sat at the table where her little brother, Isaac, sat and was playing with the food in his plate, which clearly had much more food on it than on Alise's plate. Her little brother Isaac was only 4, and yet he was much more liked than Alise was.
She sighed again and ate what little food she had. She made it last as long as she could, but her stomach still was hungry for more, as it was every day at about the same time. She wandered back to her room and flopped on her bed again. Chester came up and curled up next to her head and quickly fell asleep. She smiled and decided to also sleep again, to save her energy for the next day.She softly hummed to herself, and within a few minutes, she promptly fell asleep.
As she slept, Chester, at about 11:30 at night, woke up and leaped over her, landing in her phone and turning it on. As it turned on, a loading screen appeared on the phone and then quickly vanished as the phone turned itself off. Chester then noticed Alise stir in her sleep. Alise shifted and turned over and then mumbled in her sleep, but it was clear it wasn't exactly her talking, "This year," said a voice that was more artificial than human, "...everything is going to change."
