It took Cammie less than an hour to walk all the way back to the motel. It wasn't a difficult trip either, as most of it was following the road that lead near the motel. She passed some people, none of whom she recognized, on her way to the motel. when she had finally arrived, Yolanda was in her office, a glass of warm milk sitting on her desk and peaceful music could be heard emanating from the office. Yarren was walking from room to room cleaning them, although after the first two, he promptly fell asleep on his cart. Cammie debated on waking him, but decided to let Yolanda handle a sleeping employee properly.
Cammie opened up the door to her room and then locked it behind her. She took a deep sigh and hung up her jacket. She placed her journal on the nightstand next to her bed and proceeded to go about her usual nighttime routine. She got her shower and enjoyed the calm warmth. Cammie got into her night clothes and set the clothes she had worn today into a hamper pile. She brushed her teeth and made sure to put the curlers into her hair in order to get her signature curls. With all that done, she fluffed her pillows, proceeded to get under the covers, and grabbed her journal.
So much had happened within the last few days that just proceeded to fling Cammie left and right that she decided to take a majority of her night now to calm down and really think about all that just all happened.
First, there was her becoming Mikayla's assistant, and frankly, just Mikayla herself. There was so much that was interesting about her, especially her ability to tell when a person is lying. Cammie had to be very careful with what and how she said things related to Snipe to Mikayla. One wrong slip-up could send her entire plan down the drain. However, she also knew that she could work Mikayla's ability to her advantage. By interrogating people, and using Mikayla's ability, she would be able to get whatever information she needed, provided she didn't draw Mikayla's suspicions. That important ability, Cammie knew, would play a key role in their investigation. However, there was much more that Mikayla let on. Cammie could tell that there was a lot Mikayla wasn't telling, and she was sure Mikayla had her reasons. Cammie knew that as she would delve deeper into the mysteries that Mikayla kept hidden so well, she would risk everything she worked for so far to unlock everything.
However, it wasn't just Mikayla that pondered her, it was also Tyler, who she knew would be important for their investigation as well. Cammie knew just how powerful and influential a mayor can be over the public. Tyler clearly kept a calm attitude around him, but she couldn't help but wonder about him. So far, in the three instances she met him, Mikayla was always with her. Cammie wondered if Mikayla being around had any sort of influence over how he acted. She jotted down in her journal to talk to Tyler without Mikayla being involved. She also wondered just what happened that put his arm in a sling. Cammie knew that this was a minute and minuscule detail, but she couldn't help but wonder about it. As much as she didn't like delving too much into someone's personal life, an injury such as that did warrant a little investigation.
Everyone else that Cammie had met so far during her trip also warranted further investigation. Harley's constant smile was a constant curiosity that Cammie wondered about since she first met her. No one should be that happy all the time, but she couldn't find anything that said otherwise. Every event that Cammie had seen Harley in so far had Harley smiling like nothing was wrong, even when Harley lost her special pen. Xandie and Yarren's apathy and sleep also was rather confusing. She couldn't help but ponder why these two would be employed when they clearly would be a hindrance to the work place. Yarren's constant sleeping would definitely cause problems with getting the rooms cleaned in time. Xandie's apathy would also stir issues, with Zed being the only one who seemed to do anything at the museum.
Speaking of sleep, this was the second greatest puzzle of them all that had completely rocked Cammie's entire world. That dream that Cammie had before she entered Swan Valley. She didn't think much of it at the time, brushing it mainly off as a somewhat stressed nightmare, but that ending of it is what threw her for a whirl. Snipe had mentioned how he was kidnapped, but she now knew that wasn't true. Snipe was murdered just outside of Swan Valley, near the Laggorian Plains. Still, that entire dream completely creeped her out. She didn't understand it fully, but she also didn't want to dwell on it too much either. Never before had she had a dream so intense like that that it frightened her. She took a deep breath and sighed. There was more time for her to investigate all these things further, and legally too.
She shut her journal and placed it on her nightstand again and stared up at the ceiling. Cammie was determined to find out who took her love away from her, but she couldn't just outright break the law, or try to fight Magdalena's police force. There was also too many people around and not enough hiding spots her Cammie to use her Cloaking device at the crime scene either. She stopped and began to think about the relation Mikayla had with her sister. What happened between the two of them that made them so bitter with each other? Did a man come between them? Also, what about Mikayla's brother, Martin. Granted, she had not met Martin yet, but she couldn't help but wonder about him and how he acted. Either he could be nice like Mikayla, or bitter like Magdalena, or not even like either of them. Cammie knew that the moment there was enough to convict anyone, she would meet Martin, and hopefully work to find the truth of the matter.
Speaking of truth, she couldn't help but also wonder about these Xerzons. Darla had mentioned them, and clearly there was some mystery about them, as to what they were and why Mikayla was so reluctant about talking about them. Out of all the people she met that day, why was it Darla who warned her about them? The mention of the Xerzons didn't really seem to even attract the attention of Willis or Alexis, despite how Mikayla reacted.
Cammie sighed and decided to close her eyes. That was enough thinking for today, and tomorrow, she would have more energy to think after a good night's sleep. She calmly waited for the gentle embrace of sleep as she rested in her bed...
*thwip*
A soft sound woke her up. She rubbed her eyes and looked for the source of the sound. Over by the door was a piece of paper, folded up into thirds. She got up out of bed and picked up the note. She knew this wasn't there before. So, Cammie opened up the note, and as she did, the first line made her wide-eyed. She quickly dropped the note and slammed open her door. A mysterious figure, concealed by the darkness of the night ran from the room.
"Hey! Stop right there!" Cammie shouted as she began to give chase. Barefooted and fumbling with her phone, she managed to call Mikayla.
"Y-yeah Cammie? It's 11 at night, what's wro-"
"Mikayla! Get over to the Backfoot Motel, now! It's an emergency!" Cammie hung up and directed more focus on chasing the mysterious figure. There were no distinguishing features she could see. Cammie couldn't even tell if it was a man or a woman in the darkness. Surprising her, the figure made a sharp turn left, causing Cammie to run into a cleverly laid trap of cardboard boxes. She stumbled a little to get up and continued to give chase, however, the figure ran out of sight. However, she could see Yarren, sprawled out on the ground near her. Cammie quickly rushed over to him.
"Yarren, are you alright!?" she yelled. She could clearly see signs of the use of a civilian issue taser on him.
"H-Hey, urk, I'll...I'll be fine, do-don't worry about me." Yarren rolled over in pain.
"Don't move. I'll...I'll get Yolanda!" Cammie quickly ran off to find Yolanda's office, where she found the lights still on and Yolanda clearly exasperated from her attempts at sleep.
"Hey, what's wrong?!" Yolanda yelled, sitting up right and ready to get out of her chair.
"Someone attacked Yarren with a taser! He needs some help." Cammie fumbled around looking for a first aid kit. Yolanda grabbed one from within her desk and bolted out the door, with Cammie following behind her. They reached Yarren and carefully tended to his wounds. A little bit later, Mikayla arrived on the scene and rushed over to them.
"What happened!?" Mikayla blurted out in between pants.
"This mysterious figure, he or she attacked Yarren with a civilian issued taser. I didn't get a good sight of him or her. Did you, Yarren?" Yarren shook his head. Cammie sighed and looked at Yolanda, who was clearly concerned for her brother. "Don't worry, we got to him in time. He'll be fine and recover within a few days." Yolanda sighed and comforted Yarren. Mikayla walked over and comforted Cammie.
"You alright, Cammie? You look like you've seen a ghost." Cammie just breathed, unable to say anything. "Come on, I'll walk you back to your room." Mikayla made sure that Cammie made it back to her room safely, after being sure Yarren and Yolanda were alright. When they got back to her room, Mikayla saw the note on the ground and picked it up. "What's this, Cammie?" Mikayla looked at Cammie and Cammie's expression was all that was needed to say to Mikayla. "So, whoever that was gave you this note?" Cammie nodded in agreement. "Well, let's see what it says..." After reading it out loud, Mikayla and Cammie both exchanged worried and panicked glances.
"I KILLED HIM. I took such selfish pleasure in knowing that it was I who took his life. I was so careful with everything, but somehow, you are beginning to pick up the pieces. And we can't have that, now can we? I guess I'll have to burn some more bridges and destroy a few more things. This will be a fun game, won't it? Time is ticking. Tick...tock. Your move." At the bottom of the note was simply a crescent moon symbol.
Cammie opened up the door to her room and then locked it behind her. She took a deep sigh and hung up her jacket.
