"Hurry it up! We're gonna be late Kelvin! You're always so slow!" Kelvin rolled his eyes as he grabbed his marine blue 150 RAM laptop and stuffed it into his brown burlap backpack. "Kelvin! I'm gonna leave without you!" Kelvin grabbed his backpack and bolted down the stairs, nearly crashing into his sister, Kass. Luckily, she stopped him with a single palm of her hand.
"Well, I sure like your hustle, Kelvin. But," she broke off as she laughed uncontrollably "you look even more nerdy and ridiculous than usual Bro!" she blurted out. Kelvin looked down at his attire. He didn't think it was that funny, nerdy, or ridiculous. "Bro, we are going on a DESERT trip, not a jungle expedition." She chuckled.
She was right. He was dressed with a tan explorer fleece sheet and tan light pants. He was wearing a hat like a fedora, but it wasn't in the same way. It covered most of his short jet black hair, but some stuck out. He wore his plain brown sneakers. His backpack was broken on the right strap, so he held onto his left strap tightly. For a 14 year old, he thought he did okay.
"And I assume that your attire for this specific outing is appropriate?" Kelvin pointed out to her.
"Well duh, It's an all terrain all purpose kind of outfit. You should know this by now about it Kelvin."
Again, she was right. She was wearing a bright blue tank top. She wore her favorite ripped bell bottom jeans. Her Fire
Red Sneakers always stood out on her. That and her helmet. Her fuchsia Helmet was part of her signature look. She never went any where without it. Parts of her long coffee brown long hair were covered, but most of it stuck out, which went to her shoulder blades. She rarely ever cut her hair. She was a very popular and attractive 16 year old.
She had her leather bound knapsack on one shoulder and carrier Lucy in the other hand. Lucy was Kass's skateboard. Much like her helmet, Kass never went anywhere without it. It was her signature item and most prized possession. She had gotten
it at her first competition. She loved it and took special care of it. Kelvin was certain her board was indestructible. No matter what Kass put Lucy through, Lucy never had a scratch on her.
"Hey dork bro" Kass said, interrupting Kelvin's thoughts "Come on, we gotta get going. Alice is gonna be waiting" She ran out the door and opened it quickly and attempted to dash outside, however, someone blocked her path.
"Whoa whoa whoa Kass" calmly spoke a flamboyant, gruff voice "I know you are in a hurry, but the Tank isn't going
anywhere. Take your time next time"
"What the-!? Tank! What are you doing here!? Me and Kelvin are busy, about ready to go camping, so move aside Tank!" shouted Kass at Tank.
Tank was the head jock at Ville City High. Weighing in at 214 lbs and 5' 3", he was a burly 15 year old who was a force to
be reckoned with. His grades and academics were C level. However, what he lacked in IQ, he made up for in muscle. And he lacked a lot of IQ. Kelvin remembered when Tank couldn't remember how to dial 911 and nearly burnt his work out room.
With his tall yellow hair, he seemed even taller.
And of course, he had a huge crush or obsession with Kass. Kass had to be the only girl in the entire school to not go
gaga when Tank flexed, which he did on an almost hourly basis. He always wore, and was wearing, his white muscle shirt and ripped jeans. Unlike Kass's jeans, these were ripped apart at the knee on his right leg, so it was half jeans, half shorts.
"Just get out of the way Tank. We are going on a trip, so we can't deal with your crap right now, so move your
arse aside." Kass firmly said and pushed Tank aside.
"Well, Kass is in luck as the Tank is going along on the trip." Tank calmly said as he flexed his arms in Kass's face.
"Wh-What? Why are you going along Tank? Alice invited us to this trip." Kelvin blurted out.
Yeah, I was finally hoping to get away from you Tank, you annoying jock!" Kass yelled at him and smacked Tank across the face with her board, which, as per the legend around Lucy, showed no signs of scratches or damages. Tank smirked and turned to Kass, his cheek red from the impact.
"Now now Kass. You know you can't hurt the Tank, because the Tank is the Tank." Kass rolled her eyes and shoved Tank aside, knocking him off the porch. She quickly bolted out the door and ran down the street, picking up enough speed and hopped on her board. "Come on Kelvin! Race you there!!!"
"Hey, not fair Sis!" With that, Kelvin bolted after her, losing more and more ground with each step he took. Tank followed
after him at a slower pace, and eventually fell out of sight.
As Kass rolled down the street, weaving between the sea of people on the sidewalk, with the occasional, "Sorry!" or "Excuse
me!", she arrived at the dojo, long before her brother did. She laughed and opened up the doors of Alice's Dojo, but she was surprised at what she found.
Sitting on a couch, across from the doors, calmly sipping on a cup of tea, cross-legged and relaxing, was the Red Woman. She had hair as red as fire itself. Her face was bandaged severely to where only her lips and her left eye were visible. She wore a thick, fur coat and soft mittens. She had long pants on and winter boots. She didn't seem to take notice to Kass when she entered. She just calmly continued sipping her tea. She had been coming to the Dojo for the last few 4 years, though no one knew her name or anything about her besides her appearance. It was because of her hair that everyone in Ville City called her Red Woman.
Kass, silently, walked around to the Meditation Chamber, where she usually found Alice. Sitting in the center of the chamber
was, in fact, Alice. She was calmly meditating. Her orange-red hair flowed down in curls from her head to her waist. She wore her usual tan dress with long ruffles. Kass wanted to speak to her, but found herself unable to speak. With no need to hear Kass, Alice stood up and turned around to face Kass. She smiled her usual, cheerful, caring smile and spoke with a soft voice that soothed Kass and calmed her down.
"Why, hello Kass. You're here early. It's nice to see you kids so full of energy these days." She laughed a little and softly grinned. Alice was Ville City's Dojo Master. She was an expert in weaponry and combat expertise. She was only 14 years older than Kass herself, but she had amazing knowledge about a variety of topics. She was tutored by a genius about the field
of technology and trained by some of the greatest fighters of the recent century. She was all around the perfect person to be a Sensei. Or rather, she would be except for one small detail...
"Heh, I can't wait to beat the tenderness out of you on this trip!" Alice's voice had completely changed from the way it was before. It was darker, edgier, rougher, and a lot more stern. Her posture changed too. It no longer was in a relaxed state, but instead, was more anxious and ready to strike at anything that moved. Her hair was no longer in curls, but straight and
pointed. This was Alice's one major flaw. She suffered from split personality disorder. 6 years ago, Alice was in a traumatic event that caused her to develop her split personality. This other personality was known simply as Malice. Malice was meaner, brutaler, and fiercer. She had no moral limitations and would do anything she enjoyed. If it weren't for Alice being as mentally strong as she is, Malice would have permanently taken over.
"Umm...H-hey Malice. How are you doing?" Kass cautiously asked, taking a step back. Malice quickly reached into her dress and threw several throwing knifes, narrowly missing Kass's head. Kass let out a shriek and froze. Malice/Alice always kept a near infinite supply of weapons within her dress and even her hair. She never went without a way to defend herself or
anyone else from danger.
"I'm ready to watch you maggots squirm in the blaring desert heat." Malice smirked and readied another throwing knife. Kass quickly held Lucy up to her face to protect herself. There was a pause before Malice laughed. "As if I'd ever waste such a lovely weapon on you, maggot." Malice walked over and retrieved the knives and hid them back in her dress. She walked out to the
central room where the red-haired woman was sitting. Kass held her breath until she couldn't anymore and took a deep breath. She cautiously peered around the corner and looked into the central room. There was only person in the room was
Alice, visible by her curly hair. The Red Woman was no where to be seen.
"Um...A-Alice, what happened to the Red Woman?" Kass cautiously asked, making sure it was Alice and nothing had happened to the Red Woman. Alice smiled and brought over some tea to the center table.
"Oh, she left a while ago." Alice smiled sweetly and sipped her cup of tea. Kass breathed a sigh of relief and sat down, picking up a cup of tea.
"So, who is she Alice? She's been coming here for 4 years and no one knows anything about her except that she only comes here. Who is she?" Alice sipped her tea and calmly breathed, no hint of anger or sadness.
"That's a need to know basis Kass. She's important, but not to you, or anyone else here. You should know this by now. Do not worry about her Kass, let's focus on our trip. Are you excited?" Alice was quick to change the subject about the Red Woman, but Kass knew there was no point in asking further. Alice had kept the identity of the Red Woman a secret for 4 years, and would continue to keep it a secret.
"Oh yes Alice, I'm very excited. I just hope the sand doesn't mess with Lucy's wheels." Kass held Lucy close and spun the wheels on her.
It was at that moment that Tank and Kelvin decided to burst in. Kelvin fumbled a bit and landed face down on the floor. Meanwhile Tank walked in calmly and flexed.
"Relax ladies, the Tank is here." He smirked and struck a couple poses. Kass rolled her eyes and Alice chuckled softly.
"We weren't exactly worried Tank." Kass replied. To prevent further conflict, Alice clapped her hands together to attract everyone's attention.
"Alright everyone, we're almost ready, we're just missing one person, then we can go." Kass, Kelvin, and Tank looked at each other bewildered about who else could be going. Tank going was already a surprise to Kass and Kelvin, but, just then, the door opened again and there stood the fifth person going on the trip.
He has thick dark hair and a bandage on his nose. He wore a dark red jacket and a cerulean blue undershirt. His black jeans covered most of his blue sneakers. He carried his pack over his left shoulder and had black finger less gloves on. He had a street tough aura to him and had a toothpick in his mouth. After studying him, Kass instantly realized who it was.
"A-Aaron!? Aaron's going on this trip too!?" Kelvin could hear a little bit of a swoon from Kass's voice, but that was easy to spot since it was Aaron. Aaron was Kass's crush and had been for the past year. He sniffled and calmly walked in.
"So, are we going on this trip or not?" He spoke with a rather gruff voice and a smug look on his face. Alice nodded and rounded everyone up to her car. However, Tank hung back and grabbed onto Aaron's shoulder.
"You listen close to the Tank. Kass is the Tank's girl, and the Tank doesn't like it when people get between the Tank and the Tank's girl, got it?" Tank spoke in a tone that was a mix of a threat and a promise. Aaron just brushed Tank's hand off his shoulder and looked at him smugly.
"May the better man win Kass, Tank." He chuckled and continued to Alice's car. Tank grunted and continued to Alice's car as
well.
The car ride took about an hour by car, and a rather rough on at that, at least in the back seat. Alice was calmly driving while Kelvin was trying to block out the sounds from the back. In the back sat Tank on the left and Aaron on the right. In the middle sat poor Kass, trying to ignore Tank and bombing her flirting attempts with Aaron. The heat slowly started becoming a problem after 30 minutes, and the AC was on full. Alice had switched to Malice, since Malice preferred the heat of the desert, though even Malice had trouble with the searing heat. Kelvin was fanning himself with his hat. Aaron had removed his jacket and Kass attempted to fan herself with Lucy. Tank seemed to be the only one who didn't mind the heat, oddly enough. After what felt like hours, they arrived at their destination. An oasis in the middle of the desert. Everyone except Tank quickly rushed out and splashed their face with water. A sigh of relief came from everyone and tank slowly got out of the car.
"So, who's enjoying this desert trip so far?" Tank asked everyone.
"Shut up Tank." Kass splashed Tank with water from the Oasis. Tank spat it out on the sand and smirked. "Idiot..." Kass mumbled to herself.
"Don't worry, according to my calculation, there is a spot where we can set up camp so that we won't roast to death." Kelvin pointed to a section of the oasis bank and Malice went to go set up the tents. Tank went to go comfort Kass, though Kass shrugged it off and went to stare at Aaron. Aaron grabbed his jacket and decided to go help Malice with the tents, though he
narrowly avoided getting his ear chopped off. Kelvin went to go check out the surroundings. Kelvin walked south for about 5 minutes, but then he turned himself around and made sure he could still see the oasis. He continued walking, but something caught his eye. He rubbed his eyes to make sure he wasn't seeing things from the heat.
There, in the middle of the desert, was what looked like a hatch. A metal hatch, like the entrance to a submarine or a bunker. He cautiously grabbed the iron latch and twisted the valve, but no luck. It was completely rusted shut, even though Kelvin tried with all his might.then, a simple idea came to Kelvin's mind. He simply just had to get Tank to come over and open it. He raced back to the oasis to find Tank, which he luckily found doing push-ups in the burning sand.
"Hey, Tank, I need your muscle! Come with me!" Kelvin hurried Tank to the hatch that he found, though his actions also drew the attention of the other three. They all hurried along to the hatch that Kelvin found. Tank, with great ease, twisted the valve and opened the door. There was no light and the ominous entrance had a foreboding sense to it. As much as everyone wanted to know what was down there, no one wanted to go. Kass peered into the darkness and leaned over. Malice, being the spiteful being she was, laughed and nudged Kass forward, knocking her into the darkness. Her scream echoed throughout the emptiness.
"Hey! What did you go and do that for?" Aaron yelled at Malice, but quickly held his tongue once Malice drew a blade at him.
"Someone had to go down. I'm sure she survived. Kass, are you alive?" Malice shouted down the darkness. There was a long pause where nothing was said. After what felt like hours, a voice finally responded.
"Yes, I'm fine! Thanks a lot Malice!" Kass's voice was a relief to everyone. She could be heard fumbling around in the darkness, when suddenly light came from inside. "Hey guys! I found a light switch! Come on down, there's a ladder on the side!"
Everyone climbed down into what appeared to be a top secret military bunker. It had to have been at least 7 ft down. There were computers and scanners all over the bunker. There weren't any cobwebs oddly, so someone must have been in here recently, but with the valve rusted shut, how could anyone have? Kelvin studied the computers and technology while Alice and Tank went to make sure Kass was alright.
"I'm fine guys, really. My helmet saved me." Kass knocked on her helmet, showing just how sturdy that thing was. Aaron just stood against a wall while everyone else looked around.
"As cool as this is, I don't think there's really anything else down here." Alice commented. But she was wrong, there was something else down there. Without warning, the hatch shut with a loud thud. Tank raced up to the hatch, but he couldn't open it.
"The Tank can't open it! It's stuck!" he yelled down to everyone. Everyone started to panic except Aaron, who was oddly calm. He looked over at the computer monitors and scanned them over. His eyes widened as he spotted one that caught his eye.
"Guys, look at that." He directed everyone's attention to a lone computer monitor. Above it were the words "OPERATION DOO.MS.D.AY.". But what was more terrifying was what was on the monitor. It was their home town, Ville City. The picture on the screen started fading out, making static and white noise. The screen, after about five minutes, went completely black. Kelvin started hyperventilating and Kass clutched Lucy tight. Then, without warning again, the entire bunker started to shake. Tank had climbed down and rushed over to protect Kass, while Kelvin held onto the computers, Alice clutched the ground, and Aaron held himself against a wall. After about 10 minutes, the bunker stopped and everything was silent. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, but the relief was short lived as the computer monitor under "OPERATION DOO.MS.D.AY" came back on.
On the monitor stood Ville City, smoking, in ruins, and utterly post-apocalyptic...
